It's witching hour!!!

HAPPY HALLOWEEN EVERYONE!!!!

a lymerick for all you halloweenies!

There once was a zombie who was dead.
Late one night he woke me from my bed
He came to my door
but I was so poor
I gave him last years candy instead!

clock tower

a storm is coming
the wind blows this way.
the skies are turbulent,
churn and sway.
A drop is felt
and more come falling
crashing to the ground
winter is calling.

close to heaven

like I said...
I have a thing for clouds right now.
The sky here is on fire
as fall turns to winter.
the cold fronts can really
cause some great cloud formations.

windows

The clouds sail
past my window.
Slowly drifting by
my eye.
Images come forth
to my mind
of days
gone by
laying against
the ground
thinking of what
the shape might be.
A dog.
A rabbit.
A heart.
What do you see?

fall day in the midwest

What represents
the midwest
the best?
Corn.

cell towers can be beautiful

Can a cell tower be beautiful?
A hulking metal structure
in the middle of a field.
Clear cut trees to
place this man made
metal tree.
I guess it can be
beautiful when
the conditions
are right.

reflections

reflections
of life
mirrored in
my lens and
in my imagination.

could this wood
if stood
stand?
If my hand
touches the wood
would
it feel
the bark peel?
I leave it there to lay
to eventually decay
away.

Bugs eeewwww!

So this little guy
was hanging out on my window sill today.
It got me thinking
what is his purpose in
life?
What I mean is
why are there insects in the world?
Scientists say they help
pollinate plants or they become
food for larger animals.
But why? Why did insects
have to be created to pollinate
plants? Why can't a plant be created that
can pollinate itself or others?
Why create an animal that exists on a diet of insects?
it just seems redundant.
There's an aphid which is a small insect that feeds
on plants, so a ladybug eats the aphid for food,
so a bird eats the ladybug for food, so a cat eats a bird for food.
On and on it goes. Why even have this chain of food?

A haunting we will go!

I have been collecting these halloween
houses for a few years now
and it never ceases to amaze me
the detail and imagination
they come up with every year!
My kids love watching these houses
light up and scream.
One neighbor kid actually thought
there was a witch living in one
of the small houses!

salt by any other name

Salt, by any other name,
would taste as bitter sweet?
I always wonder who
the first person to ever try salt was.
Did he/she see this white substance
on the ground and think,
"hmmm, I think I'll try this white,powdery
stuff on some food."?
I wonder if the same happened with arsenic?

NEON

What is it
about neon signs
that make you stare
at the glowing,
buzzing light?
To me
it looks like a mad
scientist's lab.
All those coils and electrodes.
The buzzing and the heat.

Is this God's playground?

On a perfect day in summer.
The world was so bright.
The clouds drifted by with a laziness
and the heat was light.
The blue of the sky
catches your eye.
The kids are
running,
and miss how the day is stunning.

the sound of water...

In Tennessee there is a cave known as Ruby falls.
The person who discovered it
found the opening, while digging a shaft into the mountain.
The opening was
only 18 inches tall.
18 INCHES!!!! Go get a ruler and see how small that really is!
He decided to crawl into that opening
and see what was in there. It was pitch black with nothing but a small light.
He crawled on his stomach for 8 hours until he found the cavern
where there was a waterfall in the middle of the mountain. How many of us would have the
strength to do what this man did back in 1928?After another 8 hours
he found his way back out.
An interesting fact is that down that deep in the mountain
there are no insects and the temperature is always
a cool 60 degrees.

The cut.

The corn stands
for another day.
Until the combine comes
to cut it away.
The end of a year passes
until we see the green grasses.
Life begins to decay
as the day gives way.

lamp post in contrast

A photo from this morning. I think I have a fixation on the sky right now. The color of the sky combined with the shape of the clouds...dreamy.

curious minds

Little hands that hold little things.
Little minds that hold big things.
These little hands caught a little thing
and this little mind thought big things.
That little thing jumped away
and the little hand missed his little thing all day.

scratch and sniff

it's almost like you could scratch and sniff this flower.

reeds

just a photo I took this morning. The sky has been incredible these past few weeks. That's what I like about fall.

A fence is a freestanding structure designed to restrict or prevent movement across a boundary. It is generally distinguished from a wall by the lightness of its construction: a wall is usually restricted to such barriers made from solid brick or concrete, blocking vision as well as passage (though the definitions overlap somewhat).
It seems the world is obsessed with building things that restrict people. We need to build 'openings' in life. Do you remember when Germany tore down the Berlin wall? What a monumental moment in life! We need more times in history like that!

widow's walk

A widow's walk is an architectural design on a house that was originally used for women who went on top of the house to look out over the sea in hopes that their mariner husband was returning by ship. I happened to look out this morning and saw a crane having a nice view from above.

It was one of those days...

It was one of those days when the sky was perfect. Just the right amount of blue, just the right amount of white. The texture of the clouds was unusual which is what caught my eye to begin with. The air was crisp, not a hint of wetness to the heat.

Smell my feet!

Trick or treat, smell my feet, give me something good to eat!!!! Halloween is almost upon us! This is my favorite holiday of all. Throw your inhibitions to the wind and let fly your imagination. Ghouls and goblins, gremlins and ghosts. Come out, come out

you don't...you can

so we spent a few days in the great smokey mountains in Tennessee. I fogot why they are called the smokey mountains until I saw it for myself. Every morning I would wake up right before the sun came up and take a few shots. At that time the world isn't fully in motion. You can hear everything and at the same time nothing. You don't hear cars driving by, you don't see airplanes up in the sky, you don't hear delivery trucks going up and down the streets, there are no tvs blaring or people talking. It's just... quite. How many have ever experienced 'true quiet'? The call of a bird and the return call of it's mate. You can hear the sound of the wind in the trees. You can hear the stream near by, the water rolling down the hill. A far off dog barking.

fields of mist

I love those mornings when there is a mist covering the land.  What does it make  you think of when you see this? I think the land has secrets. I think of the people who have come and gone over the land and what may be left behind underneath the land.

torment

This is a photo that was taken of my son messing around on the imac...to me the photo captured a deep emotion...'Torment'

driving down the road

I was driving to work one morning and do you know how your brain just kicks into automatic mode where you get in your car in the garage and the next thing you know you are at work and you don't remember how you got there? Obviously you drove, but you don't remember stopping at any lights or turning any corners, or driving through traffic, etc? Well it was one of those automatic mornings I was almost to work when I started to realize that I was missing a lot of beauty on the way to work. I carry a small digital camera with me and take photos from time to time of things I find intersting or weird or just funny. Thought I would share what I caught with you. Lesson learned...sometimes you need to stop and look out the window because you might miss something spectacular on the road of life.

Along the road of life...my life.

Hi just thought I would add my two cents worth of opinions/thoughts/ideas to the world. Read at your own speed. Hope you like some of what you see here, if not, check back later and maybe then you will find something that interests you.
